Salman Rushdie belonged to an Indian Kashmiri Muslim family. His father was a lawyer and businessman and his mother was a good teacher.
Before becoming a writer Rushdie started his career as a copywriter, he worked for Ogilvy & Mather advertising company.
Rushdie published his first science fiction novel “Grimus” in 1975, this novel did not get the attention of the public.
5 years later, Rushdie again publish his best novel “Midnight’s Children” in 1981. He won the Booker Prize for this novel in the same year.
In 1983, Rushdie published his next novel “Shame”. This novel also got more publicity.
Rushdie won the “Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger” prize for his shame novel. This prize is close to the booker prize for France.
The Satanic Verses novel was the most controversial novel of Salman Rushdie because he got many life threats from the Islamic world after publishing this novel.
On 14 February 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini had given a fatwa ordering for Rushdie’s execution and he will be giving a prize of $3.3 million, who will kill Salman Rushdie.
After these incidents, many countries banned The Satanic Verses novel. but this novel is available online.
In 2004, Rushdie was elected as president of “The PEN American Center” for 2 years.
In 2005, Rushdie won the “Hutch Crossword Book Award” for this “Shalimar the Clown” novel.
In 2008, Rushdie become a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
In 2010, Rushdie founded the patron for Ralston College.
In 2015, Rushdie joined New York University as Distinguished Writer faculty.
